Glasgow Caledonian University
The university was opening campuses in London and New York. They wanted to show potential investors and partners that they had a long history of benefitting their local communities. However they had little or no relevant archive footage.
Wrapt Films made over twenty films for the university targeting specific aspects of the programme screened at live events and online. This dynamic and wide reaching campaign enabled this modern university to fund and sustain an ambitious programme of international development.
The first example here was used to pitch the university to potential investors and partners at the inauguration of the new campus building in New York. It circumvented the lack of archive by playing on the university’s Scottishness and co-opted the ideas of many great Scots using a witty mix of illustration, BBC archive, animation, photography and live footage shot oncampus. It went down a storm.
We employed the same approach with a London audience but took it a step further. At a fundraising dinner for high net worth individuals working in fashion we were asked to surprise this notoriously tough crowd. We created the character of Hoots Couture a fashionable Scottish owl wise enough to understand that fashion is one of the world’s most important industries that needs academic excellence to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Finally we filmed several of the university's social impact projects in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. By showing how the university’s motto "for the common good”, was being made a reality, we
brought academia out of the ivory towers with the additional benefit of showing their international and cultural sensitivities. This final example shows how the university is helping to solve a chronic shortage of nurses in Bangladesh.
